Sotomayor and Sexism

It's clear that Sotomayor is a strong woman and that she held her own in what was, at least in the past, a boy's club. I like the image of the clueless lawyer asking all the men at the table who's in charge and everyone sitting there silently. I don't know what I think about the concept of "arguing like a man." For one, I'm not sure what this means. She's aggressive? An asshole? I wonder why she can't just argue like a woman (whatever that is). I think it's problematic to assume that there are only two ways to argue. I suspect there are as many was as there are of stringing sentences together.

  1. I disagree with your statement to some extent; I don't believe the statement that Sonia argues like a man suggest that there are only two ways to argue. To me someone could argue like a child or a little girl. I want to explain what both arguing like a man and a women means to be.
Based on nature women are seen as genetically emotional and gentle. We are said to be too caring and to over dramatic. We are expected to argue soft and not stick to what we say ( easily influenced) because we are seen soft hearted.
On the other hand, men are seen as the aggressive, stern and intimidating type. To me they are expected to get what they want when they speak and they don't stand down. Hence, why Sonia was told she "argues like a man."

  2. I disagree with the statement because one way is by people acting like a little kid and the other one is acting like a little girl. A women can argue like crazy, gentle and emotional. Also women could get heartbroken if a guy cheat on her like badly. However, men are aggressive because men gets crazy a lot and hit women so Sonia argue like a men when she argue or fight with someone.
